A COMPLETE BIOGRAPHY OF ROWAN ATKINSON AND HIS ACHIEVEMENTS

Rowan ”Mr. Bean“ Atkinson
Rowan Sebastian Atkinson is a British comedian, actor and screenwriter well known for his role on the sitcoms Blackadder and Mr. Bean. He was born on January 6, 1955, in Consett, Co. Durham, UK, to Ella May (Bainbridge) and Eric Atkinson, a farmer and a company director. He has three older brothers, Paul Atkinson (died as an infant), Rodney Atkinson (Eurosceptic economist), and Rupert Atkinson. According to “The Observer”, Rowan Atkinson is one of the 50 funniest actors in British comedy.

Atkinson was educated at Durham Choristers School, a preparatory school and St. Bees School. He received a degree in Electrical engineering from Newcastle University. He was in the same class as Prime Minister Tony Blair. In 1975, he continued his study at The Queen's College, Oxford, taking the same major for the degree of MSc.

Atkinson had married Sunetra Sastry for 24 years before they were finally separated on November 10, 2015. They have two kids, Lily and Benjamin. Since 2014, Atkinson has been in a relationship with Louise Ford.

Co-writing and appearing in Not the Nine O’clock News (1979), a television comedy sketch show for BBC, his career started to come to prominence as the show was a huge success and won an International Emmy Award and the British Academy Award for "Best Light Entertainment Programme of 1980”. He was also named "BBC Personality of the Year" for his performance. The success of Not the Nine O’clock News landed him a leading role in the sitcom The Black Adder (1983), Mr. Bean (1990) and several other TV series. Atkinson also appeared in several movies, including Dead on Time (1983), Pleasure at Her Majesty's (1976), Never Say Never Again (1983), and The Tall Guy (1989).

The character of Mr. Bean later appeared in a feature film, Bean (1997) and Mr. Bean’s Holiday (2007). Atkinson has been type casted by the character to a degree but he surprisingly announced his intention to retire Mr. Bean in November 2012. Two years later, however, a new animated series of Mr. Bean appeared on ITV.
